Venue: The League of Arab States in Cairo-Egypt
Under the auspices of the League of Arab States, the Arab Union for Sustainable Development and Environment organized its 14th International Conference under the title "Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World between Theoretical Foundations and Practical Applications - Sustainable Development Goals as a Model" on December 4-5, 2024 at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, in partnership with the Open University of Libya and the University of Allama Muhammad al-Bashir al-Ibrahim in Algeria and inviting the Regional Center for Training and Technology Transfer for Arab Countries affiliated with the Basel Convention.
Objective/s: Studying artificial intelligence in terms of theoretical foundations that explain the most important theoretical foundations on which artificial intelligence is based and in terms of its most important practical applications, as it has become an important source of income, through the huge investments allocated to it in many countries that have achieved precedence in it, in addition to the possibility of using it as a new technical control and domination tool for developed countries away from the goals of sustainable development, which poses a threat to the national security of many developing countries, specifically the Arab world.
The conference topics were as follows:
First: The theoretical foundations of the topic of artificial intelligence (historical background; Concepts; Roles); Second: The most important practical applications of artificial intelligence; Third: Artificial intelligence between return and cost through studying international experiences; Fourth: The position of the Arab world on the global artificial intelligence map; Fifth: Future visions of the Arab world in building its artificial intelligence system according to the goals of sustainable development.
Participants: Representatives from eleven Arab countries participated in the conference (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, UAE, Qatar, Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, Palestine)
Outcomes: The attendees and speakers agreed that artificial intelligence is not just a modern technology, but a force capable of bringing about a radical transformation in the way we think, manage societies, and make policies.
