Regional Workshop on Ways and Technologies for HWM in the light of the Tunisia Experience

Background:  Its goal was to transfer the success of the Tunisian experience in the management of hazardous waste, the workshop covered several topics concerning the Industrial activities Waste Management Strategies. It also presented the project's results of removing obsolete pesticides, collection and pricing methods of used lubricating oils and engines (the legal and institutional framework and presentation of recycling and evaluation technologies. Along with this the workshop also presented the methods of managing used Rubber tires, Methods of management of plastic waste (Overview of the general system to restore packing materials and focus on the technologies adopted in the recycling of various packing plastic materials).

Meeting Objectives:  Transfer the success of the Tunisian experience in the management of hazardous waste

Target Audience:  The workshop targeted the participants from Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Libya, and Iraq who are concerned with the health care waste management. 

The workshop included site visits to different places:

• Site visit to a university hospital in the capital that has a successful experience in the medical waste management
• Site visit to a competent institution in treatment and disposal of medical wastes using heat sterilization technique
• Site visit to expired and damaged medicine treatment unit
• Site visit to the Tunisian Company for lubricating materials
