In continuation of the activities of the Global Monitoring Project for Persistent Organic Pollutants operating under the umbrella of the United Nations Environment Programme and the Stockholm Convention, the Ministry of Environment, in cooperation with the Regional Center for Training and Technology Transfer for Arab States (BCRC-Egypt) affiliated with the Basel Convention and the National Research Center, organized a scientific visit to Zenin wastewater treatment plant to explain by the staff in details the treatment process with an emphasis on the purpose of each unit and how much treatment efficiency is achieved at each stage. learn about the stages of disinfecting and purifying drinking water before it reaches the citizens.
Objective/s: This event aims to enhance participants’ knowledge and capabilities in the field of analysis and management of persistent organic pollutants and other chemicals, and to enable them to understand the foundations of modern methods for identifying and estimating organic pollutants present in water samples, whether drinking water or wastewater (industrial or sanitary).
Participation: 17 representatives from the General Authority for Exports and Imports, the central laboratories of power stations, the central laboratory of the Environmental Affairs Agency, laboratories affiliated with the regional branches of the agency in Suez, Asyut, Alexandria, Tanta, Sharkia and the Red Sea, the central laboratories of wastewater treatment plants, and the central laboratories of drinking water plants.
Outcome/s: Participants were are able to transfer what they have learned during the event to another group of workers, thus expanding practical experience and updating their expertise with everything that serves workers in this field.
