Highlights: The meeting will be held from 18 to 20 September 2018 at Sheraton Montazah Hall. The meeting aims to: (1) Reduce the risk of improper management of wastes from industrial activities such as plastics, lead, petrochemicals and waste containing nanomaterials, in order to assist countries in achieving sustainable development goals, (2) Presentation of the latest decisions taken at the eleventh meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention (OEWG-11), held in Geneva, El Fanara, from 3 to 6 September 2018, which discussed the strategic framework, technical guidelines, review of Annexes I, III and IV, The relevance of Annex IX to the Basel Convention, the Basel Convention Partnership Program and the new agenda items on marine plastic litter, fine plastics and waste containing nanomaterials, (3) Highlighting the efforts of the Arab States to achieve the goals of sustainable development, since their adoption by the United Nations in 2015, in the context of the 2020/2030 plans and presenting success stories for some Arab countries that have embarked on the implementation of the goals of sustainable development, (4) An overview of the latest Green Customs initiative, which will be translated into Arabic by the Regional Center.
Working Language: The working language of the meeting will be Arabic and English.
