Background: BCRC-Egypt with the assistance of SBC organised a three days Regional symposium for the Arab states national technical officials, who are involved in E-Waste Management in their countries. The main target of the workshop was to address the gaps in the adopted measures for E-waste management on the regional level, emphasize the role of the media in raising public awareness in the Arab countries and introduce to the participants a draft for a unified legislation for e-waste management for Arab States.

Meeting Objectives: The symposium objectives were to identify challenges facing Arab States in applying the most effective measures for e-waste management, discuss the practical approaches to overcome these challenges and the most applicable alternatives that could raise the efficiency and effectiveness of e-waste management in the Arab countries. Also the roles of the private sector, the international entities and the media in management of e-waste, were to be addressed.
Target Audience: The symposium targeted government officials responsible for e-waste management of the respective countries. The Symposium included 16 participants from 12 Arab countries namely; People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Union of the Comoros, Republic of Djibouti, Arab Republic of Egypt, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, State of Kuwait, Lebanese Republic, Kingdom of Morocco, State of Oman, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of the Sudan.
Outcome
The symposium successfully managed to identify challenges facing the Arab States in management of e-waste. Also it managed to highlight the important role of the media in raising public awareness of the importance of ESM of e-waste. Finally, the e-waste legislation draft was thoroughly discussed among participants who requested to share it with the relevant authorities to review and respond to BCRC-Egypt with their full technical and legal feedback as soon as possible.
