The Project Preparation Meeting

In this meeting, representatives of the Finnish ministry of Foreign Affairs, representative of the Finnish embassy, BCRC-Egypt Director, a representative of the Egyptian ministry of Foreign Affairs, a representative of the UNDP, a representative of the Egyptian Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs, a representative of the Arab League, the project manager and the two Vice-Dean of Faculty of Science, Cairo University met at Faculty of Science, Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt.

The following decisions were taken in the meeting:

• Revise the work plan to respond to the needs of the Arab countries. A time span of one week is given to revise the work plan including time frames and budget allocations and disseminate the plan to the project steering committee members for their endorsement.
• Clear distinction between the BCRC-Egypt work plan and Phase-II of the project work plan.
• The Project Steering Committee of the project shall be organized back to back meetings with BCRC-Egypt on the side of the Basel COP and in the years when Basel COP is not held, the project will cover the travel cost of the BCRC steering committee members to participate in the project steering committee in Cairo.
• A follow up local committee consists of BCRC-Egypt Director, UNDP representative, Project manager and Finland Embassy representative. This local committee shall meet each three months to follow up the progress of the project.
